Book Club

Hello Ladies,

We had an encouraging meeting on Wednesday at the Book Club and looked at various recommended book titles. It was decided it would be best to avoid new titles purely from a cost perspective, the thinking being that we could look at these at a later date. Therefore the chosen book to read is ‘Me before you’ by Jojo Moyes with the review meeting on April 3rd at 8pm at Fillongley Social club.

Having taken WI advice regarding the club, we are pleased to inform you that it works on the same principle as the WI and is open to all ladies, either members or guests. The only cost involved is obtaining the book in whatever format you prefer. The Committee will oversee the Club and keep you all informed. Please feel free to join in.

Click the book to the right to go to the Amazon site to buy or read reviews and to look inside the book.

Kind regards,
Fillongley Lite WI Committee

Denman in Bloom

Dear Federation Secretaries,
In April and May 2013 we are holding a bulb festival, kindly sponsored by Walkers Bulbs. A host of daffodils, tulips and crocuses will be on display in the grounds of Denman and to celebrate, we have organised a range of flower themed courses, so you can try a new skill AND experience the glories of our gardens at the same time.
We will also be hosting two open afternoons, where you can come and stroll in the Denman gardens and treat yourself to a cream tea. These will be on Sunday 14 April and Sunday 28 April from 1pm-5pm. Admission is £3. Children under 16 can enter for free. Individuals can pay at the gate. If you would like to bring a coach, you must purchase your tickets in advance by calling us on 01865 391 991.
I’d be grateful for anything you can do to spread word about the Denman in Bloom open afternoons and the courses listed above. It would be great if you could add it to your newsletters and link your website to the Denman Forthcoming Events section: http://www.denman.org.uk/forthcoming-events/denman-bulb-festival/19.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you require further information.
Best wishes,
Kate

December update and Xmas Meal

Hello Ladies,
For those of you who are attending the Christmas Party please note that a ‘home – made hat competition’ will be judged by the evening’s entertainer, with a prize kindly
donated by Keith, Landlord of the Cottage Pub, Fillongley. With all the talent we have, I am sure there will be some spectacular entries!
Just to remind you that it is this Wednesday at Fillongley Social Club, 7.30pm, with the meal being served at 8pm. For those of you who are paying on the night, please bring
your £12.50 in an envelope marked with your name on and hand it to our Treasurer, Jenni. Anyone wanting a receipt may obtain this from Jenni also.
Unfortunately I will miss the meal as I am attending an Awards Ceremony for long service as a School Governor, disappointed that these two events fall on the same night
I will do my best to join you later – in the meantime, have a great evening.
The Federation have asked me to remind members to complete the questionnaire regarding Denman College and the Resolution voting form that are in the November/December
WI Life Magazine.
Thank you to all those who decorated the salt dough shapes to hang on the Christmas Tree and to Karen who provided the tree, cones and lights and put it up in Church with Olivia.
I forgot to thank Sarah at the meeting for laying the Remembrance Sunday Wreath on our behalf and another thank you to Sarah as we have now heard back from Federation regarding
our Big Walk/Little Splash entry. Suffice to say Sarah put together an excellent journal of member’s achievements and we successfully completed the Challenge. Although our entry didn’t
win, I hope that you all agree that this is something to be proud of. A big thank you to all those who took part.
