April Meeting

Hello Ladies,
We have our next Meeting this Wednesday at 7.30pm at Fillongley Village Hall, with a cookery demonstration and food tasting evening by Richard Evans. Obviously no cakes required this month
but thank you so much for your splendid efforts at the last meeting, we even froze one of the cakes in readiness for the garden party, so much appreciated.
Please be reminded of our Garden Party on Saturday, May 18th, 2-5pm at Station House, Tamworth Road, Fillongley, CV7 8ED. All are welcome. As you are aware Ann Rowley is kindly offering her premises for the event and she is happy for you to take items such as cakes, preserves and plants to her house on either Friday 17th May or the morning of the 18th. With regard to other items of:
books, good quality unwanted gifts, crafts or wine, please do try to bring those along to this week’s meeting. However late arrivals can be taken to Ann’s house nearer the time, please telephone
her on 01676 540913 to make sure that someone is at home to take delivery. Thank you.
Of course help will be needed on the day, from the morning onwards, so please specify as soon as possible if you can spare an hour.
Following a successful meeting of the Book Club, the next book to read is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, with a review meeting on Thursday 9th May at 8pm at the Manor Pub, Fillongley.
The Walking Group completed their first walk last weekend, on what turned out to be a lovely sunny day. They will next meet at the Bull and Butcher Pub, on Saturday 27th April at 10.30am, for
a 4 mile walk in Corley.
Kind regards,
Fillongley Lite WI Committee.

Fillongley Lite WI Meeting - 20th March 2013

Hello Ladies,
Our meeting this Wednesday 20th, at 7.30pm, is a talk by PAWS veterinary practice, who are long established carers for animal health, from companion animals to farm livestock and horses.
As usual all ladies are welcome and we are offering this month’s meeting FREE to guests, so do invite friends to come along. If you have any questions for the practice please take the
opportunity at the end of the meeting to ask. The practice are kindly giving their talk and slide show free of charge but are looking forward to joining us for a drink and cake – so if anyone
would like to bake a cake, that would be much appreciated.
Our Garden Party 18th May, is only two months away. We need to start collecting items to sell: books, unwanted gifts/nearly new, homemade crafts, jam and chutney (cakes/plants nearer the time).
This is our annual fund raiser and we are inviting other WI groups and we hope to make a good impression, so please may we ask for your support. On the day we will still need to borrow garden
tables please but we do have sufficient chairs. We thought it would be nice to decorate the garden with colourful bunting (e.g. triangles) any volunteers to make some? Thank you.
At the last meeting we asked for interest in the Denman in Bloom open afternoons in April, unfortunately only 6 people expressed an interest, this was for 14th April. This being too few to organise a
trip but if those people would like to travel together then we can put you all in contact.
Lady Denman Cup Competition 2013, “If I were...for a day, I would...”. Fill in the blanks and let your imagination run wild! Fictional account of your day in no more than 500 words. Closing date 27th June. More details at the meeting or from Federation House.
Local WI Group Meeting - Packington and Maxstoke WI are this year hosting the Arden Group of WI’s ( Arley, Fillongley Lite, Kingsbury, Packington and Maxstoke and Ridge Lane) inviting us to a group meeting at Maxstoke Village Hall on Thursday 25th April at 7pm to hear Geoff Todd’s talk entitled Getting “Organ”ised. Tickets £5 from us or at the door. Competition – An item using buttons as a decoration.
Kind regards,
Fillongley Lite WI Committee.

Book Club

Hello Ladies,

We had an encouraging meeting on Wednesday at the Book Club and looked at various recommended book titles. It was decided it would be best to avoid new titles purely from a cost perspective, the thinking being that we could look at these at a later date. Therefore the chosen book to read is ‘Me before you’ by Jojo Moyes with the review meeting on April 3rd at 8pm at Fillongley Social club.

Having taken WI advice regarding the club, we are pleased to inform you that it works on the same principle as the WI and is open to all ladies, either members or guests. The only cost involved is obtaining the book in whatever format you prefer. The Committee will oversee the Club and keep you all informed. Please feel free to join in.

Click the book to the right to go to the Amazon site to buy or read reviews and to look inside the book.

Kind regards,
Fillongley Lite WI Committee
