Meeting 15th October 2014

Hello Ladies,
We hope that you are looking forward to our meeting tomorrow evening, at 7.30pm, at Fillongley Village Hall.
Following our group business, of Secretary’s report, Treasurer’s report and election of President, we have the pleasure of welcoming Patricia Garnham who is going to conduct a singing workshop. Some of you will know her as Patricia Tatum. She is the musical director of the Fillongley Singers and sang with the D’Oyley Carte Opera Company. The evening is going to broaden our horizons, find hidden talents and of course, be lots of fun. So we look forward to seeing you there.

MOTOWN TRIBUTE NIGHT 14TH November, places have been booked for all of you that requested tickets. Please bring £20 tomorrow evening as we have to make payment this Thursday, for all of those bookings, without fail.

The Book Club Ladies are reading Bonkers: My Life in Laughs by Jennifer Saunders and will meet on 29th October, 8pm, at Sue Blake’s house.

Please bring any unwanted jewellery for us to donate to WFWI in support of ACWW(Associated Country Women of the World).

New members. This month is the last opportunity that new members will have to pay a 12 month membership fee and benefit from a 15mth membership (oct ‘14 – dec ‘15 inc ). Fee £36.

September meeting 2014

Hello Ladies,
Our meeting tomorrow, the 17th September, is at Fillongley Village Hall at 7.30pm. Our guest speaker is, Mary Moore, Professional Blue Badge Tourist Guide and we look forward to seeing you there.

The Book Club continues to read Citadel by Kate Mosse and also Playing Away by Adelle Parkes. They will next meet on  Thursday 2nd October, at 8pm, at Lynne Rodgers’ house to discuss.

Our Group Meeting is at Kingsbury Methodist Hall, on 9th October, at 7.30pm, the speaker is Notty Hornblower from the costume museum together with two models. Cost £4, inc food, please advise if you would like a ticket. We are looking after the competition table and hope to see some of your work – Knitted socks or mittens, adults, in plain wool.

Those of you attending the Denman Lunch, on Tuesday 16th December, please bring the fee of £25 this month.

We are pleased to tell you that our WI Belly Dancing meeting features in this month’s Corunna News, page 9.

Those interested in joining the Committee are invited to our next committee meeting which is on 12th October, 8pm at Fillongley Social Club, where we will be discussing pre Annual Meeting matters, amongst other things. Do come along and get more involved with your WI.

August meeting

Hello Ladies,
We hope that you are looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting, 7.30pm at the Village Hall, which will be filled with fun and laughter, followed by a homemade Cream Tea. There will be the opportunity
for all to join in so do please come along and enjoy the evening with us. No need to bring a mug but you may wish to bring an apron. Thank you.

The Book Club Ladies are currently reading Citadel by Kate Mosse and meet at 8pm at the Manor Pub, 28th August, to review. All welcome – even if you haven’t read the book!
Reminder – October 9th is the next Group Meeting at Kingsbury Methodist Hall, 7.30pm, we are helping by looking after the competition table, knitted mittens or socks. All support welcomed.

Fantastic news, we have a confirmed booking for our centenary meeting, June 17th 2015, of Julie Summers, author of Jambusters, the story of the Women’s Institute in the Second World War.
Julie has been a full time writer since 2004 and is speaking at Denman College later this year. She is currently involved in a most exciting development in her career which is the dramatisation of her book by ITV, which will be televised next year. This is an unprecedented opportunity for us all and we hope that the meeting will be well attended by Members and Guests alike.

Meeting 19th June 2014

Dear Ladies,
We have our meeting tomorrow at Fillongley Village Hall at 7.30pm. Our guest speaker is Karen Vanhoff – Jewellery Designer,  there will be an opportunity to purchase jewellery items at the end of the evening.
Many thanks to those Ladies who kindly brought cakes for us to sell at the Village Fete and also to Jennifer who came along and helped us for the afternoon. Despite the rain, we were kept busy serving tea and cake and we made £150 for WI funds.
Our Book Club is next meeting on Thursday 24th July, at the Manor Pub, 8pm to review Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier.
The Walking Group is going to meet at Shustoke Reservoir on Sunday 20th July at 11am, please bring a picnic lunch. Rain cancels the walk automatically.
Those of you interested in joining the committee, are invited to join us at Fillongley Social Club on Wednesday 9th July at 8pm, for our next meeting. Feel free to come along and see what being a committee member is all about.

April 2014 - Belly Dancing

Tia gave us a demonstration of Belly Dance followed by a talk on the origins
and different styles, showed us some of the different costumes that are worn
and then some of the ladies had a go at doing a routine. Was a really good
night enjoyed by all.

February Meeting - Wednesday 19th

Hello Ladies,
We have our meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 19th February at 7.30pm at Fillongley Village Hall. We have a talk and tasting session from Fowlers of Earslwood, who are the oldest cheese making family business in England, continuing the traditions of handcrafted cheeses at their dairy.
May we remind you that Subscriptions were due in January but we will be collecting subscriptions again at tomorrow’s meeting.  A 12 month membership is £34.70 and a dual membership is £15.80. Please be advised that anyone who does not pay, will be removed from the MCS register and magazines and privileges will cease. If you have difficulty in attending tomorrow but wish to continue your membership, please reply by return.
It may be that we would like to apply to feature a meeting in the Corunna News at some time. This being the case, we may submit a photograph taken at the meeting. If you do not wish to have your picture published, please let us know, so that we can act accordingly.
The Book Club next meets on March 13th at 8pm at the Manor Pub to review the latest novel, Quarantine by Jim Crace.

January 2014 meeting

Hello Ladies,
Welcome to a new year at the WI. The Committee have booked a full programme of events for you, including; aromatherapy, belly dancing, military life in Afghanistan and confessions of a
Pantomime Dame. These speakers, together with trips and added extras, we hope will provide an interesting and exciting year for everyone at WI.
We have our January meeting tomorrow, Wednesday 15th, at Fillongley Village Hall at 7.30pm. Our guest speaker is Paul Taberner, who is going to tell us about Real Crime Investigations.
Please bring along your mugs for tea/coffee and any unwanted Christmas gifts for a WI table top sale. Subscriptions are due this month. A 12 month membership is £34.70 and a dual
membership is £15.80.
Congratulations to our Treasurer Jenni, who gave birth to baby Martha on 29th December. All being well, Martha will be at the meeting, helping Jenni with the busy task of collecting subscriptions!
The Book Club is now reading The Devil and Miss Prym by Paul Coelho, to be reviewed on 13th February, 8pm at the Manor Pub.
